In short
Wero is entering a new phase of its development with Wero for Merchants, a European payment solution designed for e-commerce. To support this launch in France and Europe, BNP Paribas organized a press conference in Paris on September 8, 2026, which Fnac Darty joined alongside Wero and other major corporations. The Group will roll out Wero for Merchants on fnac.com in early 2027, before gradually extending it to physical stores and its other European markets.
After developing peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, Wero is taking the leap into online retail with Wero for Merchants. Based on instant account-to-account transfers, this solution allows customers to pay for their purchases either through their own banking app, without needing to enter their bank details, or directly via the Wero app. It aims to offer e-retailers a simple, secure, and sovereign alternative to traditional payment solutions and digital wallets, designed to seamlessly integrate into their payment journeys and be easily deployed across multiple markets.
A European launch presented alongside leading retail partners
To announce the initial deployments of Wero for Merchants in France and Europe, BNP Paribas gathered representatives from Wero and several major companies in Paris on September 8, 2026, including Fnac Darty, Orange, Decathlon, and Air France. Enrique Martinez, Chief Executive Officer of Fnac Darty, spoke alongside Martina Weimert, CEO of EPI Company (European Payments Initiative), and Thierry Laborde, Deputy COO of BNP Paribas, to share the perspective of a major retailer committed to rolling out this solution.
Enrique Martinez emphasized that, for Fnac Darty, payment is not merely a technical step or a commodity: it is an integral part of the customer experience, a performance driver, and a strategic choice for managing end-to-end customer relations. In a deeply omnichannel model, the priority is to offer simple and reliable journeys, from the website to the store, while retaining the ability to deploy the same solution across several countries. He also stressed that the success of Wero for Merchants will depend on its rapid adoption by consumers and its integration into their daily habits.

At Fnac Darty, where purchasing journeys can be rich and varied, we are constantly looking to simplify the shopping experience, both in-store and online. Wero for Merchants aligns perfectly with this approach by providing a seamless and secure payment method that can be deployed on a European scale,
emphasized Martin Aunos, Director of Services, Circular Economy, and Payments at Fnac Darty

Meeting the new challenges of online payments
For e-retailers, payment is simultaneously the final step of the purchasing journey, a conversion factor, and a significant cost center. Wero for Merchants aims to meet several key expectations:
- Streamlining the customer journey: Enabling fast validation within the customer’s own banking environment, with strong authentication and no need to enter credit card details.
- Diversifying solutions: Offering merchants an alternative to well-established payment networks and digital wallets.
- Facilitating European deployment: Ultimately relying on a single integration to cover multiple markets and provide a consistent experience.
Backed by European banking players and built on the rails of instant transfers, the solution also helps diversify the payment infrastructures available in Europe. Reliability, competitiveness, and the quality of the experience offered to both customers and merchants will be key to massive adoption.
Fnac Darty: a premier use case in an omnichannel environment
Wero for Merchants is currently in an initial testing and learning phase on Fnac.com. Depending on the results, a potential large-scale deployment across the Group’s markets in France and Europe could be considered, based on three pillars:
- Robustness: Maintaining speed, reliability, and availability, even during peak traffic periods.
- Richness of uses: Initially covering online payments, then gradually expanding to in-store and other payment services.
- Adoption capacity: Making the solution visible, understandable, and attractive so that it seamlessly becomes part of customers’ habits.
Fnac Darty will thus help test the solution and evaluate the conditions for Wero for Merchants’ adoption by consumers.
